Worms can process food waste in 2–6 weeks, depending on temperature, food type, and worm numbers. Smaller food pieces break down faster.

Compost worms typically live 1–2 years out in the wild, but can live up to 4 years in a compost setup. They also reproduce quickly. A healthy wormery maintains its population naturally.

Yes. Wormeries can be kept indoors in kitchens, utility rooms, sheds, or garages. They are clean, quiet, and odour-free when managed correctly.

A healthy wormery should not smell. Bad odours usually mean too much food, poor drainage, or not enough bedding. Correcting the balance fixes the issue quickly.

Do not add meat, fish, dairy products, oily foods, citrus in large amounts, salty foods, or pet waste. These can cause smells, attract pests, and harm the worms.

To start vermicomposting, you need a wormery, compost worms, bedding material, and food waste. Add food slowly and keep conditions moist but not wet.

(Composting worms can eat fruit and vegetable peelings, coffee grounds, tea bags, crushed eggshells, and small amounts of bread ( soaking it really helps and stops it from going mouldy). Food should be added gradually and chopped or frozen first to speed up the breakdown.

The best worms for composting are compost worms such as tiger worms (Eisenia fetida) and dendrobaena worms (Dendrobaena veneta). These species thrive in food waste and compost environments.

Vermicomposting is the process of using worms to break down food waste into nutrient-rich compost called worm castings. It is faster than traditional composting and ideal for homes, flats, and gardens.

You can compost most organic waste, including fruit and vegetable scraps, tea bags(plastic-free), coffee grounds, eggshells, cardboard, and garden waste. Avoid meat, dairy, oily foods, and cooked leftovers if you are a beginner.

Composting adds nutrients to the soil and improves soil structure, water retention, and overall soil health. It also helps to reduce the need for chemical fertilizers and promotes beneficial microorganisms that support plant growth.

Worms play an important role in composting by breaking down organic material and creating nutrient-rich worm castings, which are highly beneficial to plants.
