Why temperature matters for axolotls
Axolotls are cold water animals, and temperature is one of the biggest factors in keeping them healthy. They're happiest between 16 and 18°C. Once the water creeps above 20°C they start to feel the stress, and warmer still they can go off their food, become prone to fungus and infections, and struggle to stay well.
Like all amphibians, axolotls can't control their own body temperature, so everything from appetite to digestion depends on the water around them. That's why keeping a close eye on it matters, especially during summer heatwaves when tanks can warm up quickly.
